Welcome!
The St. Clair Garden Club plays a significant role in beautifying local public areas with emphasis on Palmer Park that fronts the St. Clair River. The club is a member of the Federated Garden Club of Michigan, Inc. Our mission is to encourage interest and education in all phases of civic beauty, conservation of natural resources, horticultural and home gardening. We have meetings and lunches with guest speakers during the winter months. Warm weather will find members tending our numerous public gardens.
The Garden Club began in 1961. In the early 1970’s urban renewal resulted in the business district being razed and replaced by Riverview Plaza. The GC raised funds and financed the planting of 85 crabapple trees at the plaza, landscaping the new library and the viewing deck south of the Voyageur restaurant. Petunias were the favorite flower of the club during this time. In the 1980’s the GC and the Rotary Club completed their first joint venture, and the relationship has continued to achieve further community enhancements. The city’s first Farmer’s Market was established in the 1980’s, which continues today. In the 2000’s the delightful Straw People display was initiated at the Memorial Garden and is transformed into a lighted winter scene of trees, snow and deer. For holiday fun members march in the Santa Parade. Most recently the successful Garden Walk tours in 2019 & 2023 welcomed a regional audience to our charming city and neighborhoods. We await Garden Walk 2025!
